Escort Vehicles make road travel safer for drivers of oversize or overweight vehicles and for other motorists on the road. The North Carolina Department of Transportation requires all drivers operating escort vehicles to be certified. The Escort Vehicle Operator Certification course at Gaston College provides the Certification required by the North Carolina General Statutes for oversize/overweight vehicle escorts. The 8-hour course is for initial certifications. There will be a test at the end of the course; a minimum test score of 75 percent will be required for certification. Three sections of the course meet in the Building on the College’s Dallas Campus. Individuals who need to renew their certification—even if it has expired—can take the Escort Vehicle Renewal Certification course. It provides the Renewal Certification required by the North Carolina General Statutes for oversize/overweight vehicles. The cost for the 4-hour course is $80, including the course textbook and materials. There will be a test at the end of the course.
